Google Maps

The single most useful travel app is available on every smartphone or web phone. It will tell you where you are, where anything else is, and how to get there. It includes handy locations like convenience stores and banks. 

TripIt

TripIt is a travel management app which easily parses your confirmation emails from hotels and airlines. It will keep track of all those essential flight numbers and hotel details for you. 

TripCase

We love TripIt, but this does a few things that TripIt doesn't do - such as giving you continually updated flight delay and gate status for your flights and suggesting alternate flights if you're going to miss yours. Both TripIt and TripCase work well together.

SitOrSquat

Find a toilet anywhere in the world. A crowdsourced bathroom locator which takes you a step beyond the old mainstay of hotel lobbies in most US cities. The app is available for BlackBerry and iPhone. 

TransPerfect TransImage

A free iPhone app that translates the text within pictures that you take with your iPhone. Letters within images are pulled out, translated, and returned to the phone so you can understand signs, menus and books written in other languages. 

Foursquare

An app that allows you to check in where you are, and also find friends and fellow travelers to meet up with. This app uses the power of social media to go beyond your own intimate network. 

Gate Guru

Use Gate Guru's database of over 150 airports and the shops, restaurants and services they provide. Check airport reviews, ratings, terminals, checkpoints, tips and services.

Taxi Magic

Free electronic taxi booking app - save your calling minutes and book a taxi service online based on your location, track the ariival of your taxi, charge the ride to your credit card and expense the trip with an e-receipt.
